Moore Outfitters

Moore Outfitters has been guiding fly fisherman all over the world and here on the fabled trout, steelhead and salmon rivers of Northern Michigan since 1995. We pride ourselves on our ability to teach and instill a love of this sport to all levels, from the beginner to the advanced angler.

We are located within 20 minutes of four of the finest flies-only stretches of water in the country. The “Holy Waters” of the Main Branch of the Au Sable River and its two main tributaries- the North and South Branch. Twenty minutes to the west of Grayling lies the top of the flies-only section of the Manistee River, one of the longest and best spring creeks in the world.

If you are a streamer fisherman, these rivers offer fishing for some of the biggest brown trout in the Midwest. Streamer fishing can be good year-round, but is best in the early spring and late fall. As the season progresses (March through June), incredible hatches occur with blankets of Hendrickson, Sulfur and Drake duns along with awesome spinner-falls at dark. These occurrences can be incredible in intensity and level of action; trout can be rising all around you with more than one big one within casting distance.

As the middle of June arrives, the emergence of Michigan’s famous mayfly Hexagenia Limbata kicks in. Nick-named the “Hex," prolific hatches can come off at night producing monster browns gorging on the flies under the cover of darkness. This is truly an exciting experience that has been written about, dreamed of, and planned on by anglers all over the U.S. and world.

In addition to the world-class trout fishing, large migrations of steelhead move into Michigan rivers and tributaries in the early spring creating explosive action on the flyrod. These fish average 6-10lbs with chances for trophies well into the teens. As fall approaches massive migrations of salmon congregate in Michigan rivers to spawn. Anglers from all walks come to Michigan to tackle these brutes. It is not uncommon to hook 20-40 of these fish in a day. Be prepared to lose flies. These fish average 12-20lbs with many exceeding the 20 pound mark.

For the angler that is looking for exotic world-class “destination” fishing, Moore Outfitters offers trips to exciting salt and freshwater locations all over the world. New Zealand, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Quebec are just a sampling of the dream opportunities that Moore Outfitters has offered for over 20 years.
